Everything the cell puts out

Secretomes

A secretome is the complete set of molecules a cell releases — the exosomes plus all the free proteins, growth factors and cytokines alongside them.

What it is

The secretome is a collective term rather than a single substance. It means everything a given population of cells secretes into the medium around it, taken together.

That includes exosomes and other vesicles, and also the free molecules that are not packaged in vesicles at all: growth factors, cytokines, chemokines, enzymes, and structural proteins.

What it does in the body

For a cell whose main role is signalling — a mesenchymal stem cell, for instance — the secretome is essentially its output. It is the mechanism by which such a cell influences the tissue around it without becoming part of that tissue.

The individual components do different things. Growth factors instruct cells to divide, migrate or mature. Cytokines and chemokines regulate immune activity and call immune cells to a location. Enzymes remodel the matrix between cells. Vesicles deliver packaged cargo, as described on the exosomes page.

The composition is not fixed. What a cell secretes depends on the cell type and on the conditions it is cultured in, which is why a secretome is defined by its source and its preparation.

Where RediCell’s come from

Collected from cultured umbilical cord tissue derived cells and supplied by fill volume. Minimum order quantities apply per SKU; these preparations are priced per order rather than from the standard sheet.

What RediCell supplies from this line

Listed for reference only. Cell counts, particle counts and fill volumes are the specification; pricing is not published here and ordering is restricted to verified practitioners and institutions.
